Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship Bursary 2023

Bursary description:

  • Within Southern Africa, the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation invests in the education and development  of persons with entrepreneurial potential. 
  • Allan Gray invests in this initiative because they believe that these inquisitive, determined, and  responsible young people are capable of having a major, beneficial, and long-term influence on the  economic life of the towns, cities, and, perhaps, the country in which they operate.
  • For the bursary, the Allan Gray Foundation will cover tuition fees, textbook costs, accommodation costs, meals expenses and a monthly stipend.

Must be interested in enrolling or studying the following degrees:

  • Arts
  • Commerce
  • Engineering
  • Humanities
  • Law
  • Science

Bursary requirements:

  • Should be a South African citizen.
  • Should be studying at one of these accredited/recognized universities: University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, University of the Witwatersrand, University of Cape Town, University of the Western Cape, Nelson Mandela University, Stellenbosch University, Rhodes University, University of KwaZulu-Natal, University of the Free State.
  • Should interested in studying towards one of the engineering degrees mentioned above.
  • Should be  in financial distress and unable to pay their education.
  • Should be currently in Matric/Grade 12 have completed Grade 12/Matric.
  • Should have an exceptional academic record.
  • Should have achieved an average of 60% and above for Math in Grade 11/ Should achieve an average of 80% and above in Grade 11 for Math Literacy.
  • Should have good communication and leadership skills. Students who held leadership positions in high school will have an advantage.

The following documentation may be required for the bursary application:

  • Certified copy of your South African ID (Less than 3 months old).
  • Documentation of why you need financial assistance, this can include parent’s pay slip and a motivational letter.
  • Acceptance letter/document from the university stating you have been accepted for the enrollment of the studies you will be pursuing.
  • Certified copy of your Academic record (Grade 12 latest academic record/Grade 11 final academic record).
  • Certified copy of academic/sports awards in high school.
